Vacuum at its Origin
In 1654 Otto von Guericke performed the famous “Magdeburg Hemispheres Experiment”. He used the first ever vacuum pump to remove the air from two hemispheres to demonstrate that even with great force, they couldn’t be separated. This was the first record of a true vacuum pump being used to displace air. 300 years later in 1961, the first products under the VACUUBRAND® trademark were created at RUDOLF BRAND® in Wertheim, Germany. Over the next 60 years, VACUUBRAND continues to develop and deliver invovative vacuum products.
Moving forward with technology innovation, in 1987 VACUUBRAND developed the first microprocessor vacuum pump controller. This detected vapor pressures and used this data to adjust vacuum levels to accommodate changing solvent conditions.
In 1994, VACUUBRAND introduced VACUU·LAN®, the first local-area vacuum network to include integrated check valves and chemically resistant components. This approach to lab vacuum became widely popular around Europe because of its ability to allow up to eight different vacuum uses with one device.
Almost 30 years later in 2022, VACUUBRAND is now proud to showcase our VACUU·PURE® 10C, an oil-free, chemically resistant screw pump with no wear parts. This is a revolutionary product design because it handles high vapor loads across a wide pressure range with a completely clean process. So, while it may seem like vacuum technology hasn’t changed much in the last 60 years, at VACUUBRAND we’re happy to contribute to vacuum technology.
